You may need to purchase a new copy of Windows to install in a virtual machine.
Before installing the operating system, be sure that you have already created a new virtual machine and configured it using the VMware Workstation New Virtual Machine Wizard (on Windows hosts) or Configuration Wizard (on Linux hosts).

Use the VMware Workstation Configuration Editor to verify the virtual machine's devices are set up as you expect before starting the installation. For example, if you would like the Windows 98 setup program to install a sound driver, be sure that sound is enabled in the virtual machine's configuration. VMware also recommends that you disable the screen saver on the host system before starting the installation process.

Hey guys, I just installed Windows 98 using VMware Fusion on my iMac. I like it, but it's pretty slow. I was wondering if it's possible to pump in modern-day technology (such as the term 'gigabyte' ) and make it an ultimate computer. With the virtual machine, I can set it up for 6gb of RAM, basically as much hard drive space as I want (I have over 5TB on my Mac), and a quad-core processor. Only thing is, even with all of this, the virtual machine seems to be running slow. And I can only connect to the Internet by dialling up through a phone modem, even though the VMware Fusion has connected the virtual network card. Thanks for the help!
